Toowoomba and South-West Ostomy Association Inc
The Toowoomba and South West Ostomy Association is a registered not-for-profit association run by staff and volunteers providing essential services for our members. Our members have a stoma, which is an opening formed on the skin where part of the digestive system empties. This may be permanent or temporary and can result from birth defects, cancer, accident or disease. The term for people in this situation is ostomates, and their ages can range from the very young to the elderly. At the Toowoomba and South West Ostomy Association we ensure that ostomates receive their ostomy supplies in a timely manner and give support to members, their families and carers. Supplies are provided via the Australian Stoma Appliance Scheme and are not offered through chemists or other outlets. There are approximately 50,000 Ostomates (people with a stoma) in Australia, of which approximately 500 are our members.
